sub-Genre Prezi
There are many different types of sub-genres within horror films. For our trailer we need to think about which exact sub-genre we think will work out best for us.
Slasher films are one of the most popular in regards to sub-genres. Examples of these would be films including; Halloween (1978), Friday the 13th (1990), Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and Scream (1996). These films are all classic horror films and worldly known. They portray the stereotypical slasher horror film and this is one of the most iconic sub-genres to horror. Therefore we see this as being a good starting point for our trailer as it is a classic idea and not too much is at risk to go wrong.

Gore and disturbing is another sub-genre. Whilst it isn't known for being the most classic of sub-genres, it is a very well known one and is especially effective in the means that it's scarier and more gripping as it gets to peoples deeper fears. Examples of this sub-genre include; Saw (2004), Hostel(2005) and The Human Centipede 2 (2011). The Saw films are some of the best known horror films as they are iconic for being terrifying and disturbing. The Human Centipede films are also incredibly gory and disturbing. For our trailer we may adopt certain elements of this sub-genre. But to save ourselves from the difficulty of having to pull off a realistic gory trailer we think it would be easier to not go into that path too much as it could make our horror trailer look tacky.
Supernatural horrors are also quite popular amongst younger audiences. Carrie (1999) and Insidious (2010) are examples of this sub-genre. supernatural horrors have been found to being the most popular sub-genre liked by teenage girls. Insidious (2010) has gone on to make 2 sequels and are infamous films as they have a very unique plot. Supernatural horror films are quite difficult to make as they need attention to specific details to make it look genuine and not tacky. We decided this would be tricky to make and look professional enough.
Cannibalism is a sub-genre which is considered by our group to being very weird as an idea for our trailer. The sub-genre includes films such as Wrong Turn (2003), these films are deeply disturbed and very hard to make. The Wrong Turn films are very complex in the means that they use specific special effects, for instance, in one of the films someone gets parts of their body pulled apart and eaten, there are also heads getting cut off and so on. To attempt to pull off this specific type of sub-genre would be incredibly difficult and this makes us less likely to choose it for our trailer.
